Wind and battery project
Overview
The Dragonfly Energy Hub is a large-scale renewable energy project located at Darlington Point in New South Wales, on the Country of the Wiradjuri people. The project combines 500 MW of wind generation with a 500 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), creating an integrated clean energy facility that delivers reliable, shaped power to the grid.
The battery storage system is charged directly by the wind farm, enabling the project to store and dispatch energy in a controlled manner. This pairing of wind and storage allows the Hub to produce a shaped load profile — smoothing out the variability of wind generation and delivering power when and where it is needed most.
Strategically located in a historically constrained part of the transmission network, the Dragonfly Energy Hub plays an important role in strengthening grid stability and resilience in the region, supporting the broader transition to a clean energy future for New South Wales.
The project is developed with deep respect for the Wiradjuri people, on whose Country it stands. The Dragonfly Energy Hub is committed to meaningful and ongoing engagement with the Wiradjuri community, honoring their connection to Country throughout every stage of the project's life.

Community Impact
CleanGen is committed to ensuring the Dragonfly Energy Hub creates meaningful and lasting value for Darlington Point and the surrounding community. Working closely with local council and community organisations, CleanGen will actively engage with the community throughout the full life of the project, ensuring investment is directed to the programs and priorities that matter most to the region. This includes sustained support for education, youth development, women's initiatives and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs — giving back to the community and Country that hosts the project.
Benefits and Outcomes
The Dragonfly Energy Hub combines wind generation with battery storage to deliver grid stability and reduce carbon emissions at scale across New South Wales. Beyond its energy impact, the project is designed to drive real economic opportunity for the Darlington Point region through local employment, regional procurement and sustained community investment. These benefits are built to grow and endure alongside the community for the full life of the project.
"We've worked this land our whole lives, just as those before us did. Now we have the chance to do something lasting for our children — a secure, long-term income from hosting the wind farm and battery system that means they can keep farming the land they love, without the worry. For us, that's the greatest gift we could leave them."
